Travel Thursday: Chapter 1

I read countless blog posts about “How to Start a Blog” prior to launching Dolby Travels. What platform to use, how to choose a niche, how to grow your audience, etc. The posts were never ending. I also read about burn out. Bloggers working 80+ hour weeks, trying to juggle jobs with blogging, all while documenting everything on social media. Eventually people got worn down and exhausted and needed a break. When I started, I told myself I would schedule days off and regular breaks to prevent burn out. But with the constant need to post content in order to keep growing, I quickly found out that is much easier said than done.

So why am I talking about this? Well, the last few days I’ve found myself feeling the effects of what I think is burn out. Let me explain…

I love traveling. I am so passionate about seeing new places, meeting new people, and eating new foods, but it can be exhausting. Especially while working full- or part-time on the side. There are no pre-scheduled “days off” unless you (the boss) schedule them. So…the last week or so I have taken some time for myself to rest and regroup.

In addition to sleeping, I planned the next few months of travel for us. David and I are both committed to traveling as much as we can (especially while we are young) and the next few months are going to do that for us. We will be announcing our next destinations very soon, but in the meantime let me know where you think we should travel.

So what have we been up to?

Last month we traveled to three new places: Bellingham, Washington, Vancouver, BC, and Mendocino, California. It was a whirlwind of a month with so much weekend travel but we loved every second of it–especially the cooler weather. Make sure to check out our posts and YouTube videos from the trips.

Up next: Portland, Oregon. We leave tomorrow morning to explore a city that has been at the top of our bucket list for months now. We will being going on a vegan food tour, meeting with wineries in the Willamette Valley, and staying in some of the most eco-friendly accommodations in Oregon. Safe to say, we are stoked. Follow along as we share all of our adventures on Instagram

On another note…during my brief time off I was inspired to create a new series on the blog called Travel Thursday. This weekly post is supposed to be a space for me to just write. Let you know what we have been up to, what is coming next, keep the creative juices going, etc. I’m not sure how the series will evolve, but I’m excited to share with you more details of day-to-day life as a travel blogger, and what David and I are up to!

Until next Thursday…
